From A Door Knocker To A Wireless Doorbell
The wireless doorbell system has been available to the public for many years now, but there was a time other methods of signaling were used. Wireless methods are always fast and convenient, but that does not necessarily mean they are more effective. It is important to know what led us to the modern doorbell, and how past designs found success.
Doorknockers in the Middle Ages were used to ward off evil spirits and were usually gruesomely carved to portray gargoyles. The Renaissance offered decorative, exquisitely carved designs for the upper class, cast in iron and brass. Doorknockers were extremely efficient and made it quite simple for guests to make their presence known.
In 1831, Joseph Henry invented the electric doorbell, which is what is commonly referred to as the wired doorbell. In wired systems, a button is located near the doorknob, and when pushed activates a signaling device. The signaling device is commonly a bell, chime or buzzer located inside the building or home. Wired doorbells are still popular, and are an adequate way for guests to announce their arrival.
The wireless version of the doorbell is easy to install, and offers several tone and sound options. Some designs even come with video cameras and alarm systems, making them more a security system than a doorbell. While wireless systems are convenient, they are not any more accommodating than the basic systems, although they are seen as being stylish and trendy.
The wireless doorbellis here to stay, but the wired, electric doorbell will not go down without a fight. Both do what they are supposed to, which is inform a homeowner that guests have arrived. Many people remain loyal to the electric doorbell, and will continue to do so until the design is proven ineffective, or until wireless systems are the only option available.
By keeping all these different things in mind, you should have a better idea of the history of the wireless doorbell and where it has come from. The future certain looks bright for the wireless systems and, we believe more and more people will opt for them as the design options improve.
