Splash unveils Autumn Winter 2011 Fashion Trends

With the new Autumn Winter season, Splash enters into a time of re-invention, rejuvenation and exploration. The new season wardrobe reflects prominent shades of classy, classic and sexy and at various stages picks up from Spring Summer was left. As we further express our individualism through fashion and indulge in its guilty pleasures this season, is all about making statements which vary from heritage to a fresh view on minimalism and from retro-inspired to luxe grunge.

A season of contrasts and alternatives, the key to Fashionism lies in the ability to construct your own unique looks for both men and women. Autumn Winter's very first inspiration is drawn from the Neo Prep Americana trend which is all about a casual youth-driven story of different looks and diverse styles. Preppy overtones, pop brights, bold multi-colored effects, metallic colour mixes, prints and stripes along with the return to logos are season favorites. Continuing from the sportswear inspired craze winter will add layered styles in knits, chiffon and georgette with clashing textures and high-tech fabrics. As baseball jackets get re-vamped and appear cropped with long and sleeveless variations the colour palette gets richer with a heady mix of peacock blue and red, burgundy and petrol green and shades of schiaparelli pinks and mandarin orange. The trend also finds influences from the androgynous elements of tailoring mixed with slim silhouettes and oversized tops and sweaters. Scoop-neck tees worn with regimental stripe pants and pieced with fine-gauge cardigans and complemented with toggle coats which are a menswear essential.

Next in line is Electro Mod which is a perfect combination of high luxury and absolute subtlety, with modern silhouettes in hyper-bright hues. This trend is best used to achieve an uncomplicated look, driven by clean lines, minimal detailing, and an uncomplicated palette of black and white to balance the pop brights of vermilion, kelly green, ultraviolet, orange and daffodil. Mixed fabrics which create rounded and weightless silhouettes are set against crackled prints, grid checks, geometrics and the 60s optical look. Slim, cropped "shrunken" trousers with fitted sweaters and flat-knit turtlenecks are key, while simple coats, shift dresses with dropped waistlines, neat shell tops, tunics and tabards with funnel-neck or Peter Pan collars combined with flared or cropped narrow pants are other must have wardrobe essentials.

Since we all want that vintage vibe in our wardrobe Splash cherry picks the sleekest, sexiest, and most stylish looks from it and presents the 70's Swagger. Glossy satins, lace, sumptuous knits, fur, exotic skins, feathers and gold embellishments find their way back into the wardrobe with a warm autumnal color palette of plum, rust, burgundy, eggplant and camel to accentuate the key looks. Jewel brights as solids or in checks and print mixes can be seen in double-breasted blazers and pea coats with huge lapels. Men return to flares, velvet blazers and skinny polo-necks while women explore tailored culottes, slim torsos and flared pant leg, natty belted jackets and leather day dresses. Fuller pleated skirts also make a comeback and can be teamed with prim collars and jewel necklines tops.

This season one look which dominated the international catwalk is the Glamour Goth. Inspired by the Elizabethan, Baroque, Rococo and Edwardian eras this trend combines masculine tailoring with feminine ruffles for a look of decorous glamour and this emerges as a clear winner for occasion wear. Splash presents this look in fabrics that are decorative and textured with use of brocades, velvets and cloqués, brushed wools, leather and wet-look leather, lace, sheers, astrakhan and faux fur. Sheers and lace is added for that feminine touch while metallics for more dressed-up styles. Red is the predominant colour with hints of grey and purple. Women experiment with maxicoats, maxiskirts, capes and capelets, riding coats, fur jerkins, skinny trousers, tuxedo jackets, ruffle-neck blouses and body-con dresses while men choose from short jackets and sweaters, with low-rise pants which find a twist in the drop-crotch format.

So if you want to stay ahead of the fashion frolic, rush to the nearest Splash store where we have the hottest Autumn Winter trends rounded up which deserve a place in your closet. The entire collection is ultra-glam, bringing back old-world charm and contrasted by elements of modern mindsets.
